Community Organizing

This project seeks to create a forum for Two Spirit and Native LGBTQIA youth in Minnesota to be in community with each other. There are currently no spaces devoted to Two Spirit and Native LGBTQIA youth in either the Twin Cities or greater Minnesota, and youth have expressed that they experience isolation and disconnection from the community as a result. This blueprint will utilize the principles of grassroots community organizing to help develop a model for engaging and empowering Two Spirit and Native LGBTQIA young people. The direction of this project will be co-created with youth in order to center and prioritize their expertise in their own lived experiences and their knowledge of how a gathering of youth could best fulfill their wants and needs. The process for developing and sustaining the project will be shared nationally through partnerships with Native organizations working in urban, reservation, and village communities across the United States.
