Racial Justice

A Different Kind of Furman: Furman University Diversity Campaign is a catalyzing movement to revolutionize and increase the representation of diverse figures and people into the predominantly white institution Furman University. There is a lack of diversity & inclusion at Furman University, despite the efforts of the student-led organizations who host events, lectures, cultural events, and actively advocate for conversations with the student body. Organizations led by people of color at Furman University often host events throughout the year, which incorporate topics on diversity & inclusivity. However, over the years, little to none of the attendees are from Furman’s white population. A different kind of Furman aims to increase the white population attendance for diversity events through personal and intensive recruitment of specific diversity organizations. This will be facilitated through collaborations between diverse organizations and white majority led organizations.
