Chris Hooten is the Advanced Leadership and Alumni Coordinator at Young People For, where he organizes events and initiatives to re-energize and support the Alumni of Young People For. This includes coordinating webinars, meet ups, managing the Fem/Mentor program, and encouraging relationship building. YP4 plans on utilizing the skills and resources of our distinguished alumni to inspire and mentor our Fellows. Chris is a youth development professional with extensive community service, education, and event planning experience. His youth development and education experience ranges from teaching English in rural Rwanda to serving on the board of Circle K, a statewide collegiate non-profit focused on public service. He has earned multiple awards and honors for his community service and commitment to youth development including the Distinguished Service and Community Service Leader Awards. He has served as Alumni Engagement AmeriCorps VISTA with the top tier DC based non-profit, Higher Achievement, working to engage youth from under-supported communities. He was most recently a fourth grade teacher at Two Rivers Public Charter School working to increase literacy with economically disadvantaged youth. He graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in Gender Studies. Chris is passionate about realizing gender, racial, and economic justice by supporting leaders who challenge and combat oppressive systems in their communities.
