National Summit Awards

On January 17th, Young People For (YP4) will be kicking off our 9th annual National Summit by hosting an Awards and Cocktail Reception at Renaissance Arlington Capitol View Hotel, located at 2800 South Potomac Ave in Arlington, VA. We invite you to join the YP4 team– and over 200 young progressive leaders– as we recognize and honor YP4 alumni, partners, and donors who have been dedicated to youth leadership and the progressive movement. We are excited to announce this year’s honorees:

Sofia Campos, 2010 Fellow, will receive the Iara D. Peng Alumni Award for leadership in the immigrant youth-led fights for the CA Dream Act, the federal DREAM Act, and most recently Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The Iara D. Peng Alumni Award, named after the founding Director of YP4, is given to a rising YP4 alumnus who has shown dedication and support to YP4 and has an outstanding commitment to youth leadership development, their community and the progressive movement at large.

Phillip Agnew, 2005 Fellow, will receive the Norman Lear Award for his work to mobilize Black and Brown youth to combat prison privatization, racial profiling, and “zero tolerance” policies in schools, which many believe lead students of color straight into the prison system. The Norman Lear Alumni Award, named after the founder of People For the American Way Foundation, is given to a veteran YP4 alumnus who has shown dedication and support to YP4 and has an outstanding commitment to youth leadership development, their community and the progressive movement at large.

Dream Defenders will receive the Movement Building Partner Award, this award is given to a progressive partner organization that has shown dedication and support to YP4 and has an outstanding commitment to social justice and the progressive movement at large.
