Reflections from Denver
August was a wild month for me. I went from an incredible trip to Beijing to watch my son David compete in the Olympics as a member of the U.S. Rowing Team and then almost immediately to Denver, where People For the American Way hosted a forum on the Supreme Court and the 2008 elections. Here’s a picture from the forum, which was really quite successful.

Last Week in Denver: Progressivism vs. Conservatism and the Politics of Posterity
A theme that stuck with me early in the convention, based on several early convention speeches and less formal addresses at various events, was the so-called "politics of posterity." This is a term I heard Gary Hart use and it seemed to capture clarify a major difference between the party of progressives and the party of the Right.
Hurricane Gustav: When Mother Nature Gets Political
I spent Labor Day weekend in Miami, and while Hurricane Gustav was not scheduled to make an official, direct appearance at my location, I could certainly feel its effects. As one who grew up in with earthquakes, I was not accustomed to joint efforts of the elements of wind and water teaming up to change the landscape of a city.
Dems to Push LGBT Bills
Just recently Democrats came out saying they would be pushing pro-equality bills through congress. These laws would include a hate crimes law as well as ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would ban employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
