Like millions of Americans across the country, I too, was glued to my gym's television as I witnessed Senator Clinton suspend her campaign and officially endorse Senator Obama for president. As mentioned in a previous blog, I am thankful to have witnessed having both a person of biracial descent, and a woman, running as viable presidential nominees for a major party. However, I admit being disappointed at the negativity and divides that have risen during the primaries. I am troubled at the focus on Obama's African/Kenyan heritage, an attempt to or unintentional failure to acknowledge his biracial background. I question the use of fear and myths during the primaries as means of getting out the vote for one candidate over the other.

Edwards Endorsement BIG

Yesterday former Democratic Presidential nominee John Edwards endorsed Barack Obama for President. This recent development is particularly meaningful in sending the message to Hillary Clinton that it is time to throw in the towel. The continuing Primary race is bad for everyone in very real ways. First off, Democratic polticians cannot publically berate each other and expect the public to believe later that they will function smoothly when this is all over. The nature of debates thus far has made it impossible for an Obama-Clinton ticket to seem at all good for the country. On the same note, I would entertain the idea of an Obama-Edwards ticket which I've been calling for since the start of the race in 2007.

Unity

Iread the newspaper everyday and all I want to do is cry. Our government doesnot represent us, and it is leading the world in the destruction of our planet. The saddest thing is the people who should provide hope are threatening thefuture now. The Democrats are threatening their chances in the 08 presidentialrace by all this division and dirty politics. After the havoc Bush's republicanadministration has reeked, this election should be an easy win for moreprogressive candidates, but Clinton is too busy attacking Obama to help furtherthe progressive cause.

Why Barack Obama won me over...

Barack Obama came on Saturday for the usual presidential campaign fundraiser. While everything was the same as any other politician, Barack stood out to me. I've heard about him, read about him, and still I wasn't convinced. I expected to hear the same ol' lines that all politicians give you. In the last year or so, I've been lucky and blessed with the opportunity to hear many of them speak in person. For many cynics, that's no big deal. For me, it is wonderful, not because of who they are and because of their celebrity status. It is wonderful because it demonstrates how they do want to get to know their constituents. I am a girl born and raised in a South American country. I grew up feeling small in comparison to the world and the big, glamorous world of Hollywood. These events help bring down their stardom status in my mind because I get to see them, and I get to judge...
