The Presidential Candidates are on MySpace
MySpace has a new feature called "MySpace Impact." Along with links to the One Campaign and Good Magazine, you can learn how to register to vote and search for jobs with non-profits in your area. Part of the Impact page is titled "Presidential Focus" which has links to all the presidential candidates with MySpace profiles. Could MySpace actually influence the 2008 election? Quite possibly. Young voters are some of the hardest to get to the polls, but if your "friend" Barack Obama posts a bulletin reminding you to vote, well, perhaps you will.
Does Murdoch's Myspace Mandate Morality?

Many were confounded today to find that the popular online networking site MySpace had made a stunning move. The site had removed the option to self-identify as "gay" in their background & lifestyles portion of the online profile.
The buzz has been happening all day, some saying it was a programming error, which those experienced in programming saying that such a change had to be purposeful.
Some even say that such a move by Rupert Murdoch, who purchased MySpace not too long ago and openly homophobic, would not be unexpected.
"Can I be added as one of your friends?" ask candidates
Time recently had an article about the fact that some candidates in the 2006 races are creating pages on social networking sites like MySpace. Since these sites are free to utilize, it's a way for candidates to reach young voters "without risking any money on them". Candidates are using their profiles as means of sharing their platform, announcing events and signing up volunteers.
Allan Lichtman, an underdog in the race for US Senate in Maryland, points to his MySpace page (he has 3,288 "friends") as evidence of his growing popularity, despite a Washington Post poll that indicates otherwise. However, Lichtman had never even heard of MySpace until younger staffers told him about it and has never actually logged on to use it, leaving that responsibility to his youth outreach director. This technological gap between many politicians and their audience on sites like MySpace leads some to believe that candidates will not have much success with this tactic.
