Effective Arts Activism

Tessana worked to engage the Columbia College student body in creating change through the arts and assisted them in doing so without fear of repercussions for using their right to the to freedom of expression. To accomplish this, she created a studio that was not financially nor legally tied to the Columbia College administration by using an online forum for artists to express themselves through, especially on the topics of gender equality and to correct misconceptions of marginalized groups. She also worked to raise awareness amongst her YP4 peers about the legal boundaries of arts activism in order to assist young activists in implementing change effectively and legally by creating an art book — a guide on how to create different forms of media and use arts activism effectively.
