Fighting Chronic Illnesses

Through her Blueprint, Renee worked to ensure disease and health disparities do not limit individuals’ potential to learn and grow. She established a support and advocacy group devoted to furthering the rights of students and communities affected by chronic diseases and empowering these individuals by helping them realize they are not alone in their struggle. Because the voice of those with chronic diseases are rarely expressed on or off campus, folks with chronic diseases are often dependent on medicine and other external resources, causing grave outcomes when money runs out or a service has been cut off and a sense of helpless solitude. Renee’s group helped bring such individuals together to raise awareness of this community, decrease their sense of loneliness, and educate them about services that are readily available to folks with diseases such as diabetes, learning disabilities, HIV/AIDS, MS, Lupus, and more.
