Omar, a 2013 Young People For Fellow, is hoping to build for the future. He graduated with distinction from UNC-Chapel Hill as a Public Policy and Economics double major. With only a summer in between, he began his graduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill in Fall 2014 with plans to graduate in 2017 with Master’s degrees in Public Administration and Information Science. His work has been focused in the world of affordable housing. He hopes to use data analytics to push for increased affordable housing development to improve economic diversity. For his Blueprint, he used YP4’s workshop model to successfully lead the development and implementation of an ongoing workshop on institutional power, privilege, and oppression for students at UNC. Omar worked as a Fellow with the Development Finance Initiative, part of the UNC School of Government, which partnered with local governments to attract private investment by providing finance and development expertise.
