The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.
Alumni Network
In 2004, People For the American Way Foundation launched Young People For (YP4), a strategic long-term leadership development program that identifies, engages, and empowers the next generation of progressive leaders to affect social change on their campuses and in their communities. The Alumni Network will continue this mission by ensuring that the relationships and work completed during the YP4 Fellowship are sustained and supported over the long-term. The YP4 Alumni Network will build a community of young progressives committed to cultivating and supporting YP4 programs and fellows through mentorship, networking, advanced leadership trainings and much more.
Mentor a Fellow: 
Help us build others while you build yourself. As an alumni of YP4’s programs you embody the future of the progressive movement. The fact that you have gone through YP4’s Fellowship program offers a fantastic foundation that we'd like to continue building on. As an alumni you have experience to offer a new Fellow and understand what a Fellow needs in a coach.
After attending the regional trainings new Fellows will be paired with a YP4 Alumni who will provide mentorship and guidance during the year-long fellowship. If you’re interested in serving as a mentor click here or contact Joy Lawson by July 28th.
Host an YP4 Alumni Networking Event:
Alumni Networking events are easy ways to way to give back to YP4 while enjoying the company of fellows, friends, alumni, and supporters!

Participate in a Regional Strategy Call:
Alumni Board Members will convene regional calls throughout the year to discuss relevant issues, campaigns, and work happening in your community.
